Mysterious and strange bruises were all over one girl’s legs. Her parents immediately took their daughter to the nearest hospital. The doctors diagnosed that to be a very rare condition called ‘’purpura fulminant’’.
The girl is named Bo and she is 4 years old. She got chicken pox, but something was awkward and wrong when she got them – she started having a problem with walking. That is when her parents saw that something is wrong. Every day Bo was feeling worse and worse. One day she woke up with bruises all over her legs. And as you know she went to the hospital with her parents, to see what was wrong.
What is purpura fulminant? It is a rare condition where there is discoloration of the skin because of blood clotting. Actually, it is a rare syndrome of intravascular thrombosis and hemorrhagic infarction of the skin that is rapidly expanding and is followed by vascular collapse and disseminated intravascular coagulation. This condition can be fatal within a couple of hours.
After Bo got diagnosed, the doctors informed her parents that she might lose both of her legs. They were shocked. The doctors tried everything that was in their power to save Bo and luckily for her, she started getting much better. She had many plasma transfusions and because of that and she didn’t lose her legs. She was in a wheelchair for a couple of months, but after that, she started walking again.
