Have you heard about leptin? Did you know that this hormone is responsible for balancing your weight and energy levels? Leptin is a very important hormone in the body secreted by your body cells. It signals your brain when it’s time to stop eating, and it stimulates fatty tissue to burn more energy. If you cannot lose weight regardless of your effort, you may need to balance your leptin levels.
As you become fatter, your body releases more leptin in your bloodstream to create a balance by stimulating fatty tissues to burn fat. However, most overweight people can develop what we know as leptin resistance.
After prolonged periods of high leptin levels, some people develop leptin resistance, which means that the brain ignores when leptin tells it that we’re satiated. This leads to overeating, and makes the weight loss process very hard. Leptin resistance also increases the risk of many diseases by increasing your belly fat and inflammation.
The so-called crash diets are also responsible for leptin resistance. Some people cut calories from their diet drastically in order to lose weight fast, but this only creates further problems as the leptin responds by signaling the brain for more food. This is why you should stay away from these diets as they are the worst approach for weight loss.
Leptin resistance may also be caused by high fat foods, sugary foods, refined carbs and high fructose corn syrup.
