A recent study, published in the journal of Nutrition & Metabolism, has found that the best and the healthiest choice for breakfast would be the oatmeal.

This study was conducted on 36 men and women. All participants in this study consumed 350 calories, but were divided into 3 different groups. Well, the first group ate oatmeal for breakfast. The second group consumed cereals and the third did not eat breakfast – they only drank water.

Medical experts measured their state of satiety for the next three hours. All participants gave blood samples in order to control blood sugar and insulin in the blood to normal levels. All participants ate the same food for lunch.

  • The first group

The medical experts found that the group of people who ate oatmeal was less hungry in the morning and evening. This group consumed 31% fewer calories for lunch. Medical experts also found that oats had beneficial effect in overweight individuals, who ate 50% fewer calories for lunch.

  • The second group

The group of participants who ate cereals felt hungry three hours after breakfast. They ate the same amount of calories as the first group, and yet people were hungry after 3 hours. Well, this is because oatmeal stays longer in the stomach, which is not the case of cornflakes. Cornflakes also increase the levels of blood glucose. This can cause rapid and unexpected fall.

The group that drank water for breakfast was also hungry three hours after breakfast.

There are many similar investigations, which show the same thing. Oatmeal is one of the most beneficial foods if you want to lose weight, since 31-50% less calories will really help with that and you will notice results after some time.
