Most people can’t imagine starting their day without a cup of coffee. Everyone wants to drink their morning coffee outside in the sun, whether it’s their garden or a coffee shop. But, did you know that drinking coffee in the morning on an empty stomach does more harm than good for your body?
Drinking a cup of coffee on an empty stomach in the morning releases hydrochloric acid inside the digestive tract. People suffering from gastritis already know about this problem. The acid “violates” the food in the stomach, and if you ate a heavier meal it will lead to digestion problems and difficult protein digestion. When proteins aren’t fully decomposed in the body, you can experience bloating, bowel inflammation and irritation and this can even result in colon cancer!
Due to these reasons, experts recommend avoiding coffee right after you wake up. A cup of coffee can increase the cortisol levels quickly and makes the body unable to return to its normal function for a longer period. Cortisol is a hormone that regulates our biological clock as well as our ability to stay awake.
Consuming coffee on an empty stomach will increase the acid levels in the stomach too, resulting in vomiting and bloating. Drink your first cup of Joe about an hour after waking up, and never drink it before breakfast.
If you can’t start your day without coffee, at least lessen its harmful effects by adding a little milk or butter in it.
